Earlier this April, FSI held the first of three Regional Discussions at Ameriprise in snowy Minneapolis, Minnesota. These roundtable discussions serve as an opportunity for the compliance and operations/technology professionals from FSI’s broker-dealer firms to meet and discuss best practices and ideas for overcoming the complex compliance and operations/technology hurdles they’re facing at their firms.
The discussions kicked off on Wednesday afternoon with a clearing firm forum. Attendees had the opportunity meet with representatives from FSI’s Ambassador Clearing Firm sponsors, National Financial Services and Pershing LLC. The forum provided an opportunity for broker-dealer attendees to discuss the challenges the broker-dealer firms are facing, how the clearing firms might provide solutions to these problems and how the two could partner together to solve the challenges facing both the broker-dealer and clearing firm industries.
The program continued with more seminar-style discussions and networking, and the topics addressed included industry advocacy updates, FINRA suitability rules, best practices for email retention, business continuity, combating fraud, social media rules, and a host of others. It is always a great mechanism for members to interact, and the next discussion will be held in August on the east coast (location to be determined). Stay tuned!
