New Ideas in New York

Regional-Discussions-New-YorkEarlier this year, FSI held the first of three Regional Discussions in Minnesota, and going full steam ahead, we just held the second round of discussions in New York. These roundtable discussions provide an opportunity for compliance and operations/technology professionals from FSI’s broker-dealer firms to come together and discuss best practices and ideas for overcoming the complex compliance and operations/technology hurdles they’re facing at their firms.

The event began in the Big Apple this past Wednesday, and was hosted by FSI Premier Sponsor Broadridge Financial Solutions, Inc. The first round of optional discussions addressed how clearing firms were resolving the compliance challenges they face on a daily basis, systems and reports that are being contemplated to help broker-dealers with issues such as suitability, examination findings, and complex products and alternative investments.

On Thursday, the discussions turned to compliance and operations; topics that came up in the seminar-style discussion groups included privacy policies, best practices handling FINRA suitability rules, transitioning advisors, and email retention issues. It was great to see so many members learning from each other about how to make their businesses run more smoothly with the compliance requirements that are currently in place. It was quite a full agenda and attendees shared great ideas with each other!

So what’s next on the horizon? Our final Regional Discussion for this year, sponsored by Cetera Financial Group, will take place in El Segundo, California in October. What would you like to see discussed? Feel free to post in the comments!
