On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, signed into law New York Senate Bill 7344. The bill creates a financial literacy program for teenagers and young adults involved in New York’s summer youth employment program. This program will focus on teaching New York’s youth the importance of saving, the difference between wants and needs, the important role money will play throughout their lives and other important financial literacy concepts.
FSI has made financial literacy education a priority in 2014. We have worked diligently to plan and execute financial literacy events across the country with key members of Congress and have consistently supported legislation that incentivizes financial literacy education or creates viable financial literacy programs at both the state and federal levels.
FSI was pleased to support the passage of this legislation and is grateful the governor signed it into law.
