With the elections behind us and lawmakers’ and regulators’ priorities for 2015 coming into clearer view, this year’s OneVoice served as a powerful forum for rallying our members to get fully engaged in the crucial advocacy efforts that lie ahead.
As FSI President & CEO Dale Brown and 2015 Board Chair Adam Antoniades made clear in their opening general session remarks, it will be vital this year to educate regulators and legislators both federally and in the states on the critical role our industry plays in the lives and aspirations of investors across the country. It will also be more important than ever to engage with regulators to ensure that new proposed rules are not based on misconceptions about our industry, beginning with the Department of Labor’s upcoming revised proposal to expand its definition of ”fiduciary,“ and potentially pricing millions of IRA investors out of desperately-needed financial advice.
Other highlights of this year’s OneVoice included:
- An open, amiable and insightful discussion between Karl Rove, former Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush, and Robert Gibbs, former White House Press Secretary and longtime advisor to President Barack Obama.
- A comprehensive update on the current regulatory environment and the numerous fronts where we are working to make a difference for our members, delivered by the leaders of the FSI advocacy team.
- A discussion on mergers and acquisitions and the current M&A environment between LPL Financial President Robert Moore, Ladenburg Thalmann CEO and President Richard Lampen, and Cetera Financial Group President Adam Antoniades.
Attendees at the conference also took part in a broad spectrum of discussion panels and breakout sessions led by industry experts on topics ranging from the technology trends that are shaping the industry to recruiting to due diligence and marketing best practices. We look forward to seeing everyone at OneVoice 2016, scheduled for January 25-27 in Orlando. Be sure to look for a more comprehensive recap of OneVoice 2015 in the upcoming issue of FSIVoice.
