Recently, we participated in the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Second Global Summit in Washington, D.C., both as an attendee and a partner organization. The event featured a long list of subject matter experts, ranging from influential academics, financial services industry executives and federal regulators and included Mary Jo White, Chairwoman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Chair White provided stark statistical numbers about how fast the elder population in the US is growing. By 2033, she said, the population of those 65 and older will outnumber those who are under 18. These numbers reinforce the imperative need for the industry, regulators and international community to continue to do more to protect these vulnerable adults.
We are proud to lend our expertise and influence to this worthy cause and will continue assisting our members in fighting back against the proliferation of elder financial abuse.
